Brand Kit for a Boutique Fitness Studio
Every business owner I work with has a version of the same story. They hire a designer. The designer asks for "brand guidelines." The owner sends a logo file, a hex code they think they remember, and a paragraph that starts with "our brand is warm and approachable." The designer does their best. The result looks fine. It does not look like the business.
This happens because most brand guides are written for the person who already knows the brand. They describe the vibe. They do not show the system.
A useful brand guide does four things. It locks the palette so no one improvises a new blue. It maps typography to hierarchy so headlines, captions, and body text each have a lane. It shows the logo on every background it will actually live on. And it gives the designer enough voice context to make copy decisions without a phone call.
The guide I build for clients is a single HTML file. No Figma link that expires, no 40-page PDF that nobody opens past page six. One file with color swatches, type samples, logo usage, mood direction, and a do/don't section specific enough to prevent the three mistakes every new designer makes in their first week.
The real value is not the document. The real value is what stops happening after it exists. The back-and-forth rounds drop. The "can you make it more us" revision emails disappear. The designer starts producing work that matches what you see in your head, because you finally showed them what was in your head.
If you are hiring a designer, a social media manager, or a content creator this year, build the guide before you build the job post. Hand it over on day one. Watch how fast the work improves when the person doing it has more than a logo and a wish.
